Stand Still

This popular Southern expression means to literally hold back and see how things develop and not do anything in haste.  I learned this expression from Charlotte, South Carolina chef Emma Gromedy, who advised me to “Stand still” and not take any dramatic steps during a controversial Zoom in which I was preparing to confront a difficult issue.
